About Hooked on Chibis!

Welcome to Hooked on Chibis!

This site is the product of a lifelong love of gaming, a more recent love of anime, and a perpetual habit of fidgeting that collided in a magical explosion of creativity. I've always envied the artists at anime conventions who find clever ways to express their love of fandoms and games, and since I don't draw, there seemed no easy way to reconcile my desire to do wacky things with anime characters and my inability to make art in any meaningful fashion. Then one day I learned about amigurumi, and saw some different doll types, and i thought, "That's right! I CAN CROCHET!"

So I bought a book called "Creepy Cute Crochet", from which I learned the basic patterns for general doll parts, and using the author's techniques as a springboard, I developed my own patterns for specialty parts such as the cloak on my Black Mage, the hat that Link wears, and the arrow adorning the Last Airbender's bald head. The result has been a tremendous learning experience as I try to design new parts, consider the most important aspects of character appearance to distill onto such small dolls, and show off my work to people who will love it as much as I do! I hope you agree with me that the end result is too cute to pass up ^_^

As popularity has grown, and more people have come to love the dolls, I've been lucky enough to bring more people on board in order to help get the love out! We are now a four-person operation: a spazzy crochet artist, an overambitious college intern, a cosplaying PR diva, and a cantankerous old wizard of a business manager. You'll hear from us all periodically on this blog as we adventure through the world of conventions, fandoms, and life!

ABOUT THE DOLLS:
All of my dolls are handcrafted by me from cotton and cotton-blend yarns, using buttons for eyes and synthetic poly-fill for their stuffings. The buttons are securely sewn on, but they are still buttons; so please, use caution around the very young (and those prone to putting things in their mouths). In general, the dolls will sit upright on their own, but as their little butts are rounded, this can never be a complete guarantee and some may not be weighted as well as others.

Enjoy the adventure! ^_^
